Happy First Flight Centennial! PDF Print E-mail

After almost a year of anticipation, the official 100th anniversary of flight is upon us. 100 years ago, at 10:35 am on December 17, 1903, Orville Wright lifted off on the first self-sustained powered flight by a heavier-than-air vehicle, opening the flood gates to the modern world. The brothers quickly followed with three more that same day, the last totalling 852 feet in 59 seconds.

In related news, it was speculated that President Bush may unveil his new plan for NASA today, but this now looks unlikely.
