President Bush officially unveiled his new vision for NASA today, with a few key points: Finish the Space Station Retire the Space Shuttle Develop new Crew Exploration Vehicle (2014) Start visiting the Moon by robots (2008) Visit the Moon by humans (2020) Establish a long-term presence on the Moon Develop technologies with the ultimate goal of landing a human on Mars
Most immediately, a commission will be created to draft a report outlining what needs to happen to make this goal a reality. The report will be delivered in May.
Of course, this all needs to have money allocated, technology developed, and be supported by the public. Can it be made a reality? Only time will tell.

The Debian Installer project just released their Beta 2 milestone and needs your feedback. Beta 2 provides tons of bug fixes, plus the ability to install Debian from a USB flash drive (very cool!). For the uninitiated, Debian is billed as "The Universal Operating System", a distribution based on the Linux core. I use Debian here on my laptop, and I say it's a godsend. Its Installer is being readied for the next release, coming up early this year, if all goes well.
