Virginia took a huge step backwards recently with a law banning outright any "civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement between persons of the same sex purporting to bestow the privileges or obligations of marriage."

  The best quote from the article: "We try very hard as second-class citizens to use what meager tools we have, knowing that at any time some bigoted judge can throw it out, saying, 'Jesus doesn’t like you.'"

  Second-class citizens? Perhaps not, but the overall point is spot-on. Some have suggested the law may even be unconstitutional, but it will takes years for it to work its way through the court system.
