Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2001 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, November 15, 2001 was a good day in lives of men everywhere. The self-proclaimed "Sexiest Night on Television" was on the air, and the males of the world had mobilized on their respective couches to accept the full-frontal onslaught of scantily-clad supermodels. In homage to that groundbreaking event, I have produced this review. Enjoy.

The event opened with a half-hour backstage hype session led by a guy I've never seen before and don't care to see again. With the dubious honor of being a male trying to hype up a parade of women to a bunch of males, Mr. Rupert Everett led a noble charge. The humor fell flat, and the world found out he was really a dork, but hell, he got to rub his cheek up and down Heidi Klum's leg. Rock on, man.

Once the hyping was concluded (and none too soon), the main portion of the show opened with a triumphant performance by Andrea Bocelli singing his "Il Mistero Dell'Amore". While I must admit my mp3 player isn't loaded with Italian love longs, it really fit the mood of the evening. Classy, light, and upbeat, Bocelli really delivered. Now I just wonder about the impact his name in pink under a big "Victoria's Secret" on his CD cover will deliver to his masculinity.

Now enough buildup, let's get to the actual fashion show part of the event. The first half of the show was around 9 minutes of straight fashion-models-in-lingerie bliss. The selection was a somewhat mixed bag of black, red, and white pieces, all of course accenting the features of their respective models in a big way. The best of the bunch, I must say, was Adriana Lima in a skimpy red insanely hot short-short-skirt ensemble. Watching Heidi Klum walking around in a $12.5 million bra was also quite impressive.
